Dennis A. Winters, OALA ASLA
Dennis A. Winters has sought stimulation in other places and ways of living --- residing in Helsinki to study architecture and urban design, he found the riches of being in the woods; in Ithaca, NY he discovered a spiritual home while documenting the intimate intricacies of the natural environment; in Kathmandu to study the Himalayan mountain system, he made acquaintance with Buddhist philosophy; and in Kyoto to study Japanese gardens, leading to research in Western Tibet, he found great meaning in designed sacred landscapes. He’s been able to marry personal interests with professional work, and has had the fortune to present his research to UNESCO, USAID and Japan Society and to organize teachings for the Dalai Lama.
As a landscape architect with professional degrees in both landscape architecture (M.L.A., Cornell) and architecture (B.Arch., Florida), and a background in environmental analysis and regional land use planning, he practices landscape architecture through Tales of the Earth. His aim is to create places of silence … and the unbearable lightness of space. He recently began teaching landscape design both privately and at Ryerson University.
